This season we are looking at the I AM factor inside of us and how it relates to the people around us. Last week we looked specifically at purpose and its relation to I AM.  Today we will continue in a similar vein. Who you are is directly correlated with what you are supposed to do.

That is why we study purpose – to better understand I AM. Looking at it from this perspective helps you identify whether you should be where you are right now. This in and of itself alleviates many problems and helps you know whether what you are doing, where you are doing it and when you do it is in line with your purpose and ultimately your I AM.

If you have an evening to spare, do me a favour and watch the film Chariots of Fire. It is a classic with many life lessons encapsulated in it. That was the most poignant time I saw purpose in a man. I will never forget it. That was the first time I desired to understand what my own purpose in this life was. I saw a man in his element, in his sweet spot, at peace and truly happy while running as an athlete.

He even said: “I was made to run.” What were you made to do?

When we do things that don’t align with who we are, simply because we have to, it drags us down and makes us feel like we can’t succeed. When we do what we were meant to do it kicks us into second gear. I’m not saying purpose and easy go hand in hand, because they don’t. It simply makes something which is at times challenging, easier for YOU. Think of it like this: being an Olympic athlete is difficult, but it becomes easier when you know that that was the very thing you were born to be; your drive remains unquestioned. Flowing in your purpose gives you licence to achieve and enjoy so much– a fulfilling combination rarely attained in life.

On that note, you may be wondering how to tell the difference between your purpose and a selfish desire that simply feels good. These kinds of desires also feel ‘easy’. Here is the formula: Purpose always has both your best interest and other people’s best interest at heart. Purpose is always linked to those around you. It impacts the lives around you for the better.

Remember that if you stay somewhere where you’re not supposed to be and do something you weren’t meant to do – you are not just robbing yourself, you are robbing society. Your purpose will take you places you never imagined and never expected – IF you are willing to step out of the place where you are right now. Flow in your purpose, because that will make a difference in the lives of the people around you!
