Dear Tribe,
June is a month when we celebrate our youth annually! Sometimes, no matter how old we are, we must look in the mirror and see the reflection of our stage of life. Youth is so beautiful and expresses vibrance and a certain ability to live life to the fullest. However, during the past years, our young people have been faced with challenges previously unknown to generations.
We are all part of a new generation, a time so different from what those before us experienced. The older generation may find it challenging to fully grasp the intricacies of a young person’s life today, but we all share the common thread of adapting to a world where the internet and technology have transformed the way we live and learn.
Our young people are constantly exposed to a barrage of images and opinions from millions of people, a challenge that can overwhelm even the most resilient mind. I hold a deep admiration and love for a generation that has had to navigate the consequences of rapid change. The covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns were a prime example of such disruption. Older individuals had to grapple with the unknown, and in doing so, may have found it heart-wrenching to protect their children from the dangers of this pandemic.
The question is, how does an older generation prepare their young for some things that they have not been exposed to?
Mental health issues are at the order of the day. I wonder how many are battling because the brain and our minds have never been designed to deal with the tons of fleeting and even often violent information it is now exposed to. People are not taught to lead disciplined lives in terms of what we allow into our minds, as it would be the focus on physical diets. The only person who can protect my mind from damaging images and information is me. I must decide what is good for me and what not.
Debates are going on about certain foods and what should be in a diet and what not, but what about teaching our future leaders to take ownership of their own lives and decide what needs to be allowed in their minds and what may be damaging?
Precious Tribe, my heart for each of you is that you may find your way through the challenges and decide to guard your minds against information that you certainly don’t need for you to grow and become the best version of yourself. I hope you can still see the clear image of who you truly are when you look into the mirror and embrace your beauty. I hope you give yourself a solid chance to enjoy your life in a simple yet profound way. Think the way you want to be and become. That is a power no one can ever take away from you.
Have a lovely July and stay warm.
Much love
Miskyah
